When Sophie ends her life, best friend Dara struggles to mourn her death as she is faced with Sophie’s digital remains.
A contemporary and irreverent take on grief in the age of the meme, 7 Bananas looks at the clumsy way we mourn online and explores the surreal feeling when confronted with the digital remains after a friend’s passing. This is a personal story from writer-director Daisy Moore about dealing with the loss of a friend. The script was developed through Shortflix, an initiative by Creative England for under-represented talent. It was backed by Signature Pictures Academy, a social-enterprise that breaks down barriers for young creatives from diverse backgrounds.
7 Bananas screened at several BAFTA and BIFA-qualifying festivals. In 2023, it screened at the BFI’s summit ‘Woman With a Movie Camera’, highlighting emerging female filmmakers.
Winner, Best Script and Best Edit at Women X Film Festival. Nominated for Best Actress at the British Short Film Awards 2022. Nominated for Best Screenplay at Underwire 2021.
